Qualifications:

 

  • Valid Washington State teaching certificate appropriate for assignment, English Language Learner endorsement preferred
  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution of higher learning, master’s preferred
  • Evidence of advanced learning centering on English Learner (EL) education
  • Advanced level proficiency in ACTFL Spanish written and oral assessments
  • Three years building and/or district leadership experience
  • Ability to provide leadership for Dual Language programs for students geared to achieve state and national standards in two languages
  • Experience as an effective Dual Language teacher
  • Knowledge of tenets of CAL Dual Language Framework
  • Experience in working with children and families who are culturally, linguistically, and racially diverse
  • Ability to support in the development, articulation, communication, implementation and stewardship of a K-12 Dual Language program
  • Ability to lead professional development opportunities aligned with school and district Dual Language initiatives
  • Ability to collaborate with a professional learning community and attend in-district, state, and national training 
  • Willingness to work closely with instructional committees to research, plan, and implement innovations to improve student learning
  • Comfortable working in a collaborative environment in a program focused on improving student learning
  • Advanced ability to use technology as an effective communication, planning and instructional tool
  • Willingness to participate in professional development courses aligned with the school and district initiatives

 

 

Essential Functions:

  • Be a contributing member to the district English Learner team
  • Understand and translate research and theory into practical applications
  • Collaborate with district instructional coaches and other instructional leaders
  • Communicate effectively in a variety of situations and build positive relationships
  • Mentor school based Dual Language staff
  • Partner with school and district administrators supporting Dual Language Programs
  • Partner with Human Resources for the hiring of teachers
  • Work with universities to form teacher pipeline
  • Implement a K-12 Dual Language program for VPS English Learner students
  • Foresee evolving needs within the district, particularly as they focus on effective implementation of Dual Language standards, assessment, instruction, and leadership and collaborate with other leaders 
  • Work effectively and cooperatively with community, parents, teachers, administrators and support staff
  • Collaborate to expand current VPS K-12 Dual Language Framework to address needs of English Learner students
  • Partner with Language Learning Resource Coordinator to coordinate Dual Language application process in alignment with district policies and procedures
  • Coordinate professional development specific to teaching strategies of English Learner service delivery through Dual Language
  • Build scaffolds that support teachers as they align the curriculum to the English Language Proficiency Standards
  • Collaborate with VPS Language Learning Programs to create a rigorous pathway for Dual Language in Middle and High Schools
  • Research and review Newcomer Framework in alignment with policies and procedures
  • Work with school teams to collect, analyze, and utilize student assessment data to identify specific needs and develop systems level responses
  • Model a working knowledge of and commitment to technology as a tool for learning and increasing student engagement and empowerment through access to rich digital content
  • Partner with Curriculum & Instruction to purchase additional Dual Language curricular resources
  • Connect most current research and trends to VPS programs
  • Other duties as assigned
 
This position includes up to 20 days beyond the teacher contract. Duty days to be determined by supervisor and re-examined on a yearly basis.

 

Such alternatives to the above requirements and desirable qualifications may be made as the district finds appropriate and acceptable.
