Position Definition:
The Certified Athletic Trainer provides athletic training services to student athletes engaged in
interscholastic athletic activities at the high school level. This includes, but is not limited to, first
aid/emergency care, on-site injury evaluation, prevention and rehabilitation programs and medical referrals. The certified athletic trainer should be able to multi-task and be available for late afternoons, evenings and weekends.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution of higher learning
- Valid National Athletic Trainers Association Board of Certification (NATA-BOC) certificate
- Valid Washington State Department of Health Athletic Trainer License
- Current First Aid and CPR card, or ability to obtain prior to the established start date
- Recent experience with K-12 athletes, preferred
- Ability to work cooperatively with students and parents who are culturally, racially, and linguistically diverse
Essential Functions:
- Develop, implement, and manage the athletic training program
- Prevent, evaluate, diagnose, treat, and rehabilitate injuries
- Provide emergency care and first aid
- Design, coordinate and supervise care of athletes and rehabilitation programs for athletic injuries
- Maintain accurate records of accidents, injuries, and treatments involving student athletes and/or spectators injured on district property
- Make recommendations to parents or guardians regarding medical care related to student athlete injuries, illnesses, or conditions
- Identify, screen, track progress, and manage return-to-play decisions for concussions
- Provide IMPACT training to district high school coaches
- Administer IMPACT testing for athletes
- Coordinate with building Athletic Director on the purchasing of athletic training supplies
- Coordinate season schedule with District Athletics Office, building Athletic Directors, and coaches
- Maintain a working schedule with Athletic Director and coaches for coverage of school sponsored sports, including post-season
- Attend on-site practice for in-season sports
- Travel regularly with sports teams for in-season and post-season, as required
- Communicate effectively in both oral and written forms and work cooperatively in an effective and positive manner with diverse parties to include staff, students, parents, and community
- Work successfully as a team player and follow the Head Coach/Athletic Director’s program direction
- Treat co-workers, supervisors, students, parents and others with dignity and respect at all times
- Serve as a positive role model for students, and practice the behaviors that are expected of our students
- Work in a flexible and cooperative manner
- Regular attendance to carry out the duties and responsibilities of the position to achieve program requirements
- Other duties as assigned by supervisor
Working Conditions:
- Work both indoors and outdoors in all weather conditions
- Exposure to blood and other body fluids which may contain hazardous and/or infectious agents
- Ability to lift and move moderately sized objects up to 50 pounds
Such alternative to the above requirements and desirable qualifications may be made as the District finds appropriate and acceptable. It is understood that the district has the right to transfer and assign employees to best fit the needs of the district. Athletic Trainers appointed a position in any given school year may be re-appointed to the same position for the subsequent school year without further posting.
