A Transportation/Bus Support employee works a flexible schedule that often involves different hours on a weekly basis, and with split shifts.

Qualifications:

  1. High school diploma or equivalent preferred
  2. Experience working with diverse racial, ethnic, sexually oriented, and cultural groups preferred
  3. Experience working in an environment supporting and assessing safe operations of a bus system preferred
  4. Maintain WISHA approved first aid/CPR certification

 

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  1. Ability to work effectively as a team member
  2. Ability to work with frequent interruptions
  3. Ability to meet tight time constraints and deadlines including but not limited to varying working hours when necessary.
  4. Ability to guide and instruct students
  5. Regular attendance is required to carry out the duties and responsibilities of the position to achieve program requirements, goals, and outcomes
  6. Sufficient strength and agility to assist well and/or physically impaired students on or off bus through passenger service door. Sufficient strength and agility to move about and to assist students with evacuation if needed
  7. Ability to demonstrate effective public relations skills
  8. Effectively communicate with individuals and groups of all ages, backgrounds, and educational levels
  9. Ability to remain calm and maintain concentration and patience in a noisy environment
  10. Ability to operate two-way radios and other communication devices

 

WORK ENVIRONMENT/PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

  • Constantly (67-100%): sit, hear, see, and smell
  • Occasionally (6-33%): stand, talk, walk, crouch, twist, reach at waist, use fingers, operate controls, lift up to 10 pounds
  • Rarely (1-5%): climb, bend, crouch, kneel, reach below waist or over shoulder, lift or carry 21 to 50 pounds, push or pull up to 20 pounds
  • Maintain composure under stress in the presence of emotionally and physically challenging interactions
  • May be exposed to weather, wetness and/or humidity, vibration, odors/fumes, dust

Essential Functions:

  1. Treat co-workers, supervisors, students, parents and others with dignity and respect at all times.
  2. Serve as a positive role model for students, and practices the behaviors that are expected of our students.
  3. Work in a flexible and cooperative manner.
  4. Assist the school bus driver in ensuring students comply with established safety rules and maintain a positive climate for students during transport
  5. Assist bus driver or district resource officer to document and communicate student behavior, bus environment, and follow up as needed
  6. Identify and resolve problems in a timely manner with minimal supervision
  7. Act quickly and be aware of surroundings to ensure the safety of the students transported
  8. Ensure all students use safety gear when required, i.e., seat belts
  9. Assist bus driver in loading and unloading students on and off the bus
  10. Monitor and supervise students to address individual needs
  11. Assist bus driver with maintaining proper records and documentation
  12. Perform other tasks and assume other responsibilities as assigned by supervisor
